Romans Real Estate Office Fired
From Defective Chimney
Monday morning Miss Iva Smith
discovered that the Romans Bros, office in which she is
stenographer was on fire. She immediately summoned aid
and in a short time the blaze was extinguished. No alarm
was turned in but the chemical engine was brought into
use. The fire originated from a faultily constructed
chimney. The chimney is of galvanized iron and the
woodwork almost touches it. The wood became over-heated
and the blaze resulted.
While up on a ladder
assisting in putting out the fire Alfred Wright slipped
and fell cutting his right hand deeply in the palm. This
was the most serious damage inflicted by the fire. But
for the promptness with which assistance was given the
entire south side of Broadway might have been enveloped
in flames. For pure luck Denison certainly takes the
prize. Denison Review January
