Freeman, Paul Theodore ----A
terrible accident happened at the home of Dwight Freeman, who
lives three miles southwest of Leon, last Saturday morning
about 11 o'clock, Mrs. Freeman had occasion to go across the
road to the home of Jasper Record on an errand, and left her
fourteen months' old baby boy, Paul Theodore, playing on the
floor. The little tot in some manner overturned a lamp which
was used to heat an incubator, and the oil ran over his
clothes and ignited, and in a moment his little dress was all
ablaze. Mrs. Freeman had started back home when she saw the
flash of fire, but before she could reach the house the little
one was terribly burned. She tried to tear the remainder of
its clothes from the little body, but the. fire did its work in a
second and the baby had inhaled the flames, as well as being
burned all over in a horrible manner. Dr. Greenman was
summoned at once by phone, and administered opiates to relieve
the suffering of the baby, but there was no hope to save its
precious little life, and it passed away about three hours
after the accident.
The funeral was held from the home Sunday afternoon,
and the frail little body laid to rest in the Palestine
cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Freeman have the sincere sympathy of
everyone in their terrible and heart rendering affliction.
