Agne, Caroline Smith ------Monday afternoon at 3:15 o'clock, occurred the death of Mrs. Jacob Agne after twenty-two months of Illness.  Her death resulted from cancer and for five months she was a patient sufferer bearing her sufferings with true fortitude, as becomes a Christian woman, as Mrs. Agne was. She was aged fifty-seven years, eight months and four days at the time of her death.  As Caroline Smith, she first saw the light of day in Germany, on August 8, 1851. On August 8, 1857, she came to this country, coming directly to Keokuk, and here she has lived ever since, a period of fifty-two years. During this time she has made many friends to whom the news of her death came as a shock. She was possessed of a beautiful character and disposition and was endeared to her friends and all who know her by her many endearing traits. It was indeed a sad blow to her family when the death angel took this loving wife and mother to her eternal rest.

She was a member of St. Paul's German Evangelical church, and also of the Daughters of Rebekah, and the Ladies' society of the church. She is survived by her husband and six children Miss Ida, Charles, Dan, William and Mrs. Herman Rank all of this city and Mrs. Fred Bowles of Ottumwa. There are two sisters, Mrs. Auguest Jeffrey of Phoenix, Ariz., and Mrs. George Leindecker of Quincy, 111., and four grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon, at 2 o'clock, from the house and at 2:30 from the St. Paul's church. Keokuk Constitution Democrat and Ottumwa Courier April 15, 1909
